TIME TO GET EXCITED
Dear Friends,
It's the time of year when hockey fans invest an enormous amount of time and energy in supporting their favourite teams enroute to a potential Stanley Cup win. It has been a lot of years since Canada has brought the cup home to this side of the border, but we have more of our teams involved still in the game (no pun intended), and they're all looking pretty darned capable of winning!
You're likely aware that virtually every team has a list of music they use to get them primed/prepped for action. You can find playlists online that include much of what you'll hear in any given game, as well as playlists devoted to specific players on any given team. Here's an example - it contains a full list of songs for the Edmonton Oilers (it’s a little dated, but a lot of these are still used....I know because I'm an Oilers fan, full disclosure).
Music is such a huge part of getting people excited that we often take it for granted. Imagine watching one of your favourite TV shows or movies, and at critical moments in the film's emotional arc there's no music to support it. At times, the silence could be incredibly powerful, but for the most part it would seem almost crazy that music wouldn't be a part of the moment somehow. Like this moment from the end of the film Star Wars. The clip here uses non-John Williams music at the start, then cuts it out completely.
